I too listen to more of Furthur than the "Dead" . Though I don't always get excited by Kadlecik , I think he does fit better than Warren . Now where WH kicks his ass ( and Phil's and Bob's) is his singing ! We all have our ideas of whom would sound good in the guitar spot ( Kimock, Trey etc.) , but no one would be perfect ( yes Jerry Garcia is dead ). I have always though that , to make up ( somewhat ) for Garcia , Phil especially, has tried to push aspects/songs that were ignores with the GD . The songs that work for me are the ones the ones they didn't play much ( the 11) , or the jams . On the other hand , a song like Tennessee Jed, seems like a bar band covering a Dead tune .
I like the 7 Walkers, but they have their limits also . When I saw them, Billy seemed pretty happy . And the unsaid thing, is I would guess it is fun to play as a single drummer again . He was great .
